Husband and wife illustrators Arthur and Georgie Gaskin turned their combined attention to jewelry design in 1899. At the time, their home town of Birmingham was the center of England’s jewelry trade. The Gaskins were proponents of the Arts and Crafts Movement and created all of their pieces by hand as the movement dictated. Georgie created the designs while Arthur did the enameling. The remainder of the work was handled by assistants.
This necklace shows their beautiful work quite nicely. A work of enameled silver, the necklace is called “Love-in-a-Mist” because of the frothy pearls and drops which are set upon the framework of silver. The Gaskins made this piece around 1910.
