While Princess of Wales, Alexandra (the future Queen Alexandra, consort of King Edward VII), presented this cylindrical link gold bracelet with five oval gold lockets to her Royal mother-in-law, Queen Victoria.

Each of the lockets is  mounted with different stone-set motifs and each conceals a photograph of one of Victoria's grandchildren.  Their names are inscribed inside the covers:

Prince Albert Victor's (the second in line to the throne until his unexpected death) photo is housed in a locket set with a Horseshoe in diamonds.

Prince George (who would become King George V) is found in a locket mounted with a "G" reversed in rubies & diamonds).

Princess Louise's visage is hidden behind an "L" of diamonds & sapphires.

Princess Victoria, a "V" of diamonds & emeralds, and Princess Maud's locket is adorned with "M" in turquoises.

The Home Beautiful: Princess Maud and Prince Charles of Denmark 1896-1901

Prince Charles of Denmark and Princess Maud
1896-1901
Frame by Viktor Aarne of Fabergé
The Royal Collection
This beautiful frame of three-color gold, dazzling blue guilloché enamel, half pearls, rose diamonds, and ivory by Viktor Aarne (Johann Victor Aarne (1863-1934)) of Fabergé rather steals focus from the photographs it holds. But, honestly, there are few photos which could rival the beauty of this magnificent frame.

Still, the photos themselves are quite handsome. Here, we see the pretty Princess Maud in a photo from 1896. Maud was the daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The other oval houses a photo of her new husband, Prince Charles of Denmark who was quite a fine-looking chap. Maude married the Prince in 1896. From 1905 onward, he was King Haakon VII of Norway, ensuring that Maud always enjoyed a Royal lifestyle.

Later Queen of Norway, Princess Maud was the daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. A keen patron of the arts, Princess Maud was also a champion for the rights of children and animals. Though she fulfilled her duties as Queen Consort of Norway, after her marriage to Haakon VII of Norway, she always loved England first and most.

This photograph was taken in 1905 just before becoming Queen Consort. Queen Alexandra placed the cherished photo in a frame by Viktor Aarne of Fabergé. The frame of gold, silver-gilt, guilloché enamel, pearls, diamonds, mother-of-pearl is a masterpiece unto itself.
