This week’s treat from my mother’s kitchen is a special one, indeed. Baked in honor of my father’s birthday, this homemade spice cake is filled with ganache and iced with a rich mocha butter cream frosting. The combination of the flavors is amazing. Spice blends into the creaminess of chocolate and is soothed by the smooth, light , subtle coffee flavor of the frosting. Not only is it delicious, but it’s attractive. With its lattice-work piping this cake is a work of art of the best variety—the kind you can eat.
