So, today, if you have a pet, take a few minutes to do something special for him or her. You can give your pet chilled, bottled water on a hot day. Make some time to play with your pet and his or her favorite toy. Even just a few extra belly-rubs while you’re watching TV, will make your pet’s day.
If you don’t have a pet, you might consider picking up some pet food and dropping it off at a local animal shelter, or better still, consider giving a pet a loving home. Bertie was a rescue dog. Adopting him was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Animals add so much to our lives. And, as I’ve said before, they have so much to teach us.

Oh just look at that precious face! What a sweetie! Hugs to Bertie, and to you as well, Joseph, for promoting kindness to animals -- a cause near and dear to my heart. <3
Thanks, Diane. Here's wishing you and Molly a great day!
Bertie is a giant sweetie! I have two dogs, both from a shelter, Zack and Gretchen. Zack is a red golden/shepherd mix and Gretchen seems to be either a rottweiler/beagle or rottweiler shepherd. I feel I must add that she was 2, had been severely abused, but with lots of love and some training completely recovered. Older and/or neglected animals are almost never a lost cause for saving! Gretchen is the most loving, loyal and protective dog I have ever had, and Zack is incredibly smart and sweet.
The best dogs I've had were rescues/adoptions. Bertie is a perfect example. There are rescue groups, purebred and otherwise, everywhere. The ASPCA is a wonderful place to adopt, too. Donations to such groups are a very good idea. You can click on the purple button at this site to donate food to shelters, every day for free: http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/
OK I'll get off my particular soapbox. Joseph knows I can't help it :)
Hi whirligig. You're one of Bertie's favorite people. And, Zack and Gretchen are big sweeties, too! Gretchen is a great example of a dog who was rescued and has been taught that life is good. She's a bright and wonderful dog, as is Zack. Also, thanks for the link to the animal rescue site. It's really worth any donation you can make.
