Object of the Day: W.F. Wheaton, Printer

Frogs have an enormous need for stationery and fancy business cards. I know this because…

Well, I don’t know it at all.

I do know, however, that this is a pretty nifty die-cut trade card. It’s one of many in my collection which are shaped like fans. And, this one’s all the better because it has a rather pompous-looking red frog on a metallic background.

The card, dating, I guess, to the 1880s, was of the sort which could be selected from a catalog for over-printing or stamping. This one was used for:

W.F. WHEATON,
PRINTER AND STATIONER
52 WILLIAM ST.,
NEW BEDFORD, MASS,
Fancy Business Cards a specialty
