The second, as we've known, is Ellen Barrett. In some ways, Ellen makes Julian's/Punch's other sister, Lady Barbara, look like Mary Poppins. Sure, they share some similarities--like their obvious callousness regarding their own crimes. But, while Barbara actually felt some compassion for her own family from time to time, Ellen has no such leanings.
So, while Robert and the staff have gathered around the recovering Gerard (with Charles guarding the door), Punch is alone in the nursery with his former governess/new sister. He just wants to welcome her to the family. No, not the Fallbridge family. No, not the Molliner family. The Punchinello family. Punch's panto instincts kick in and he whacks the woman across the head with a bed-warmer.
I wonder how that'll work out.
Meanwhile, Mr. Speaight's been poisoned, Charles is missing and Finlay is being threatening. And, of course, Grange Molliner is still filled with party guests--including the tracherous Baron Lensdown, his long-suffering wife, his mistress--Lady Constance, the dead Countess Hamish, and...the very disgruntled Johnny Donnan.
Just because Ellen's schemes have been revealed, the family is clearly not safe yet. Expect a lot to happen this coming week. You won't want to miss a chapter. And, as always, if you do, you can pop on over to the Chapter Archive where you can read summaries of each and/or the whole chapter.
Thanks for reading!
