I shall now confess that for the last few days I’ve been utterly wretched with a sore throat and other miseries. So, I didn’t think that anything could really make me feel better or, even, cheer me up. However, leave it to my mother to lift my spirits.
Upon visiting my parents’ house, Bertie and I were greeted by the inviting smell of leeks and I soon realized that one of my favorite dinners was on the way. We enjoyed a feast of chicken breasts cooked with a creamy sauce of leeks, onions and mushrooms. It’s just the perfect thing to get a body feeling better. Herbed mashed potatoes and a new treat—broiled broccoli and cauliflower (which was exceptional)—completed the meal.
I was already feeling much better by the time we got to dessert, and that course was to prove even more soothing. Pillowy, mellow, tender cookies infused with the mild, elegant flavor of Crème de cassis (a liqueur made from currants) were joined by one of my favorites—homemade strawberry ice cream.
A better home ready was never invented.

I want some chicken. And ice-cream and cookies. Wow!
I love cassis! Great flavor! The cookies are beautiful. Bet the ice cream goes well.
Looks lovely.
I'm going to try making the roasted veggies.
I wish I could cook like that.
I have a soar throat too. Where's mine? That icecream would hit the spot.
