Brooch Gold, 1880 The Victoria & Albert Museum |
I
know I’ve posted this brooch before, but it’s too perfect for today not to
use. The brooch was made in 1880 by an
unknown goldsmith. Created of colored
gold, it takes the form of a Japanese fan.
Made
in England, it satisfied the need for informal gold jewelry intended for
daytime wear as well as the growing late Nineteenth Century fashion for
Asian-inspired objects.
