Goal for the Day: Discover Something

Today, if you get a chance, you might want to play explorer.  On your lunch break, take a walk around a local antique mall or a shop you’ve passed a million times, but never been in.  Your mission—to find something extraordinary at a reasonable price.  Today would be a great day to treat yourself to something unexpected.  You never know what you might find.  Perhaps you’ll stumble across a rack of antique or vintage postcards.  Those can usually be purchased for a very low price.  It’s even better when they’ve been written on.  Discoveries like that are your own personal archaeological dig.  They give you a glimpse into a world that has passed and an idea of what individual people were thinking and feeling.  You’ll find that while the world around us changes each day, human nature has always been fairly consistent.

I love poking around antiques shops you never know what you'll find. One of my favorite little buys is a small silver compote engraved with the name "Nancy".By its shape and style it appears to be from the 1920's. I have no idea who Nancy was or why the bowl has her name on it, but every time I use it, I can't help but wonder if she enjoyed useing it a much as I do.

That's really neat! And, now, Nancy (whoever she was) lives on because you think of her every time you use the object. That's exactly the spirit of discovery I'm talking about!
