Treat of the Week: Chocolate Pound Cake

Pound cake is one of the most versatile of baked goods. Perfect on its own or used in the construction of another desert, pound cake is a confection for all seasons. This rich chocolate pound cake is surprisingly moist and delightfully flavorful. Served with whipped cream as my mother did or with ice cream, cream cheese or even raspberry curd, this cake is a good end to any meal.

One of the best things about pound cake is that it ages well. Kept wrapped tightly, a pound cake will only improve after a couple of days. They freeze well, too. If you happen to bake (or purchase) a pound cake, you can freeze slices of it to defrost and enjoy later—comfortable knowing that the structure of the cake won’t be compromised by freezing. No matter if you consume it now or in the future, the best part of a pound cake is eating it.
