Goal for the Day: Monitor Your Stress Level

Stress caused by both internal and external stimulants can be damaging to both our bodies and our minds. Unfortunately, much of what we face each day is stressful. So, it’s important to keep tabs on your stress level. If you’re feeling overly anxious, frustrated or angry because of the circumstances of your daily environment, you should find ways to lessen that stress.

If you can, take a few minutes each day to remove yourself from the stress. If you have anxiety and heightened emotions in your workplace, make sure to escape from it for a few minutes. Take a break, walk outside, call a loved one. Make sure you always have something on you which reminds you of peaceful times and thoughts. Perhaps you have a photo of your family or pet on your cell phone, or a picture of a favorite vacation spot. Pause to look at that, and take some deep breaths to calm yourself down.

Remember, very few situations are really worth getting yourself upset about. The day-to-day inconveniences really don’t have to make a difference in your quality of life. Other people’s problems are not your problems, other people’s anger is not your anger. Your first priority should be to take care of yourself.
