Object of the Day: A Pill Box Commemorating the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary

I was treated to an unexpected Halloween present from my parents this past weekend. In a bucket of candy was this little treasure—wrapped in bright tissue. It’s a pill box made to commemorate the 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary. Any of you who regularly read this blog know of my particular fondness for George and Mary (our pumpkins for Halloween depicted them, for goodness sake) and that I collect items commemorating their lives. So, as you can imagine I was especially thrilled.

The box is in excellent condition. It consists of a pressed-glass vessel and embossed metal front which is adorned with profile portraits of the King and Queen.

Ooooh I adore this piece!! Your parents are the coolest EVER! They know their boy *so* well!

I have a loverly little pill box that looks something like deep blue enamel, with a teensy little needlepoint rose on the top...I'll post a pic if anyone is at all interested...The fun in the tiny little treasures, besides their intricacy, is showing them off!

This is a very nice item. I found out that it is a commemorative photo case when I saw one posted online. It came with several accordion style fold out pics of the king and queen. It was silver plated and was also made in light-medium blue glass as well as clear.
