When, in June of 2007, the V&A celebrated the 150th anniversary of its opening at the South Kensington site, the museum commissioned 150 leading artists, designers, architects and photographers to contribute a page for an anniversary album, expressing what they found most inspiring about the V&A and its collections.

The call for works simply stated that the page could be in the form of a drawing, design, sketch, graphic, computer-generated image or a message in words.

Here we see the album page designed by the late, brilliant Ronald Searle (1920-2011).  Searle presented, in his unique style, caricature drawings of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert dancing in celebration; with the inscription, “V&A - always with it” at the top left.
