The last couple of days, I’ve not shared a book with you. I was reorganizing. But, I’m back on track. So, let’s take a look at today’s book which dates to 1951 and was printed, again, by the Pitkin Publishing Company. The book was part of the “Pride of Britain” series which was designed to reintroduce the public to the Royal Family. Here, they got a look at Princess Margaret Rose as she celebrated her coming of age.
Not long after this book was published, Princess Margaret’s father, King George VI, passed away and her older sister, Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II. But, 1951 was a fun year for Princess Margaret as she turned 21. The book is filled, mostly, of portrait photos of the Princess looking beautiful and princess-y and doing regal things like holding flowers and playing the piano. I find these photos to be an interesting contrast to later photos of Princess Margaret looking boozy and cruel, if not still elegant, in her golden years. I guess it’s difficult to be “the spare.”
Let’s take a look inside. Some of the greatest images are those of Margaret with her family in almost candid moments. She’s pictured with Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother; King George VI; a young Princess Elizabeth (before the throne), and, even her nephew and niece—Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
