The STBE Challenge: East Chop Lighthouse

I’ve received a lot of photos from people from different areas who have responded to the challenge to share beautiful images from your lives. This fantastic picture was taken by one of our readers. It shows the majestic East Chop Light House on Martha’s Vineyard. The original lighthouse on the spot which is now known as Telegraph Hill was built in 1869. That tower burnt down and was replaced in 1871, and then again in 1878. That’s the lighthouse that stands today. Initially painted a deep brown, the lighthouse was nicknamed, “The Chocolate Light.” A photo—though not in color—from 1898 shows the same light with its deep-hued paintjob.
