Our Victorian counterparts had a special fondness for pearls. They weren’t just for ladies. Men could wear pearls quite proudly. Stickpins often featured pearls in their various forms. This Victorian stickpin showcases a Baroque pearl atop an English 15 karat gold (the English standard at the time) pin and accented with a diamond at the base of the pearl. These irregularly shaped Baroque pearls were often used in gentleman’s jewelry because of their more rugged and natural appearance. The presence of the diamond adds just a touch of polish to the piece. This is one of my favorites. The tooth-like pearl always make me smile.
