This self portrait from the Royal Collection is the work of Giuseppe Macpherson (1726-c. 1780). The bust length portrait depicts the artist in profile to the right. He wears a green coat and holds a paintbrush in his right hand. This is obviously meant to capture the painting of his own portrait.

His attire and powdered wig are wholly late Eighteenth Century. MacPherson, a fashionable gent of the time, painted portraits of other similarly fashionable people in and around the Royal Court—mostly miniatures like this one.

A work of watercolor on ivory, the image is set into a gold frame which bears his name.
