This photo was taken in 1880 by W & D Downey of 57 & 61 Ebury Street, London. The albumen photograph was intended to be used for a carte di visite which would have been collected by the public.
Here, we see Alexandra, the Princess of Wales (later Queen Alexandra, Consort of King Edward VII). She is shown in three-quarter length holding a white kitten. Alexandra shared a passion for photography that had developed in the Royal Family with Prince Albert. In fact, the future Queen Consort, was known to take many candid photos, with her own personal camera, of the Royals at home.
