Obscure Book of the Day: The Queen Jubilee Issue, No. 1, 1935

The Queen, the Ladies Magazine, focused on the issues of lifestyle and fashion that concerned ladies of the middle and upper classes.  The magazine often published special issues for important events such as Royal weddings, coronations or Jubilee celebrations.

This issue is the first of two which were published in 1935 for the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary.  The issue focuses largely on my beloved Queen Mary as a collector of art and antiques and gives us a glimpse at her personal collection.  But, of equal interest are the advertisements showing the fashions of 1935 from jewelry and gowns to underwear and hair products.  As I said yesterday, I wish I could reproduce the whole thing for you, but here are a few choice images.  Tomorrow, you’ll see Issue Number 2 which is just as stunning, and, like this one printed in gorgeous color and stunning metallic gold and silver ink.

Let’s take a look inside…
