I
recently purchased this unusual Victorian postcard and spent far more on it
than I would have for almost any other card.
But, I had to have it. I’m sure
you can see why.
We
have here a boy dressed in a homemade Mr. Punch costume, complete with what I’m
guessing are a papier mache nose and chin.
He holds a cudgel. He has a Dog
Toby dressed accordingly. It’s—in short—glorious.
The reverse only says "postcard" and has a place for the stamp and address. There are no marks or inscriptions, and, sadly, no explanation.
