Object of the Day: A Die-Cut Trade Card

This attractive trade card is one of several in my collection which is printed in monochromatic color scheme with a background of metallic ink. This one is unusual inasmuch as it is die-cut and shaped like a fan.

These cards were made as standard stock. Sometimes they were printed with an advertiser’s information on the reverse, but often, examples survive which were never printed. They often depicted, as this one does, scenes of children outdoors.
